Mood MusicThe world premiere of Mood Music, a new play by Joe Penhall, author of the award-winning West End musical Sunny Afternoon, marks the 200th birthday of the Old Vic. Penhall reunites with long-term collaborator, the Notting Hill director Roger Michell, who he worked with on 2012's Birthday at the Royal Court. In this drama, set in a claustrophobic London recording studio, two songwriters engage in verbal warfare over their music. They're flanked by their lawyers and psychotherapists as we learn about the creative process and raging narcissism. Ben Chaplin plays the role of Bernard, a record producer who goes to battle with a group of lawyers, after Rhys Ifans pulled out citing family reasons. The cast also includes Seana Kerslake (Can't Cope, Won't Cope) as Cat, Pip Carter as Ramsay, Kurt Egyiawan as Miles, Jemma Redgrave as Vanessa and Neil Stuke as Seymour.

About Old Vic Theatre

With the exception of The Globe, the Old Vic has had a greater influence on the history of drama than any theatre standing today. From John Gielgud and Laurence Olivier, to Kevin Spacey and Judi Dench, the Vic has played host to generation after generation of stars since it opened its doors in 1818. More about Old Vic Theatre
