Sally Cookson - the director behind Jane Eyre and Peter Pan at the National Theatre - creates a stage version of Patrick Ness's magical realist novel, A Monster Calls, for the Old Vic, as part of the theatre's 200th anniversary season. Already a film, with the monster voiced by Liam Neeson, Cookson directs this staged version of Ness's award-winning novel which centres on a 13-year-old boy called Conor, who learns to face his darkest fears in the company of a hulking monster that visits him at night. This adaptation, an Old Vic production made in association with Bristol Old Vic and shown there first, is suitable for children aged 10 and above.

About Old Vic Theatre

With the exception of The Globe, the Old Vic has had a greater influence on the history of drama than any theatre standing today. From John Gielgud and Laurence Olivier, to Kevin Spacey and Judi Dench, the Vic has played host to generation after generation of stars since it opened its doors in 1818. More about Old Vic Theatre
